What it is for

Wellbeing & daily life (menu: "Wellbeing", under My life) is a set of nine private tools for you, not the inspector. At the top a red banner, "Struggling right now?", takes you straight to the helpline numbers. Nothing here goes into the ship file or any report. Like the My life aboard tools, what you save is kept on this phone and included in your backup; on the trial or a paid plan it is copied through the SeaReady server to your own other signed-in device only, and the diary travels only in its locked, encrypted form.

Welfare & mental-health kit — a crisis box with the SeafarerHelp phone and WhatsApp numbers; five seafarer helplines and port chaplaincies (SeafarerHelp, ITF, Sailors’ Society, Mission to Seafarers, Stella Maris) with tap-to-call, WhatsApp, text and e-mail buttons; national crisis lines for the UK, Philippines, India, USA, Australia and Ukraine, which work only from a phone connected in that country; six short exercises for a hard moment (box breathing, 5-4-3-2-1 grounding, long out-breath, tense and release, write it down, talk to one person); and sleep tips for watchkeepers. Every number shows its source and when it was last checked.

Private incident diary — write down what happened, when, where, who was involved and who saw it, with optional photos, while you still remember. The diary is encrypted on the phone with a PIN (4 to 6 digits) or a passphrase (at least 8 characters); if you forget it, nobody can open it, not even SeaReady. It locks itself after 3 minutes without use, when the app goes to the background and when you leave the page; a half-written entry is kept (encrypted) and comes back when you unlock. After 4 wrong tries each further wrong try adds a wait: 30 seconds, 2 minutes, 10 minutes, then 1 hour. "Export PDF" gives the text of every entry; photos stay on the phone and you tap one to save it. Voice typing is switched off in the diary. "Delete all diary entries" needs you to type DELETE and cannot be undone.

Job-offer scam checker — tick the warning signs that match an offer: a fee to get the job, payment to a personal account, no licence number, contact only by WhatsApp or social media, pay far above normal, no interview, no written agreement, a ship that does not exist, money for visas or travel, originals by courier, and more. You get a risk score out of 100 with "low", "caution" or "high" advice; being asked to pay, or to pay into a private account, makes it high at once. Below are the official places to check an agency: India’s DG Shipping RPSL list, the Philippines DMW search, your union or the ITF and your flag administration, plus Equasis to check a ship’s IMO number. Nothing you tick is saved or sent.

Shore-leave port guides — general notes for 25 major ports (Singapore, Rotterdam, Fujairah, Houston, Santos, Durban, Antwerp-Bruges, Mumbai/JNPT, Manila, Busan, Hamburg and more): the seafarers’ centre or mission, SIM and eSIM, getting around and shore-pass notes, each with its sources and the date it was last checked. Search by port or country. Each card has "Suggest a correction", and the page ends with four port finders for welfare in any port.

Safety-language cards — 46 safety and work phrases (fire, abandon ship, man overboard, stop work, enclosed space, mooring, PPE, injury, talking) in English and Tagalog, Hindi, Russian, Bahasa Indonesia and Mandarin, with a play button that uses the voices installed on your phone, so audio works offline. Three tabs: "Cards", "Flashcards" (shuffle, flip the direction, show the answer) and "Daily question", one SIRE 2.0 question a day with what good looks like and the evidence to show. The translations are drafts: verify them with a native speaker aboard, and in an emergency use the ship’s working language and the SMCP.

Watch sleep & cabin fitness — choose your watch pattern ("4 on / 8 off", "6 on / 6 off" or "Day work") and your watch times, and the page draws a 24-hour bar with your watches and suggested sleep blocks (a main sleep of up to 7.5 hours in the window nearest the night, plus a second sleep or a nap), the total hours and nap tips for that pattern. It allows 30 minutes to eat and wind down after a watch and 45 minutes to wake, eat and take over before the next. Below are 10 cabin exercises with no equipment, each with how to do it and how many to do.

Galley suite — four tabs for the cook and the officer holding the victualling account. "Budget": crew on board, days, start date, daily rate per person, currency and spent so far give the total, what is left and the per-person-per-day figures, with a red warning when over budget. "Menu": set diets (halal, vegetarian, no pork, no beef), allergens to leave out and the cuisines to rotate (Filipino, Indian, European, Chinese, Indonesian, East European), tap "Fill the week for me" and change any meal in the 7-day grid; meals that break the diet rules are flagged. "Provisions": a rough raw-quantity order built from the menu for your crew size and a number of weeks, to copy or print. "Slop chest": a price list, a sale record and a ledger with totals per crew member to deduct from wages.

Allotment & savings — choose the currency you are paid in, a monthly goal, your home currency and the exchange rate you actually got (the app does not fetch rates), then log each allotment by month, amount and who it went to. You see the total sent, the total in your home currency, the average per month and how many months met the goal; each month in the log is marked "goal" or "below".

Data-light family sharing — tap "Choose photo" and pick a target size (100 KB, 250 KB, 500 KB or 1 MB); the phone shrinks the picture itself, shows the size before and after and the pixel size, and lets you "Share" it or "Save small copy". Location data is removed from the small copy and nothing is uploaded. A "Data allowance planner" works out how much a daily mix of messages, photos, voice calls and video calls will use and how long your allowance will last, with tips to save data.

Who can use it

Everyone, on every plan including Free, for every rank. The galley suite is written for the cook and the officer holding the victualling account; everything else is for any seafarer. Nobody else sees what you save here.

Step by step

  1. Open the menu, tap "Wellbeing" and choose a tool, or tap the red "Struggling right now?" banner for the helpline numbers.
  2. Welfare: tap a phone number to call, "WhatsApp" to message, or open an exercise and follow its steps.
  3. Diary, first time: choose "PIN (4–6 digits)" or "Passphrase (stronger)", type it twice and tap "Create my diary"; afterwards type it and tap "Unlock".
  4. Diary entry: fill in "When it happened", "Where", "What happened", "Who was involved" and "Witnesses", add pictures with "Add photo (optional)" and tap "Save entry"; tap "Lock" when you are done.
  5. Scam checker: tick every warning sign that matches, read the "Result" box, then check the agency on the official list in part 2.
  6. Port guides: type the port or country in the search box and read the card; tap "Suggest a correction" if something has changed.
  7. Safety phrases: pick a language, filter by category, tap the speaker button to hear a phrase, or switch to "Flashcards" and tap "Show".
  8. Sleep: tap your watch pattern and your watch times; the bar and the sleep blocks update at once.
  9. Galley: fill in "Budget", set diets and cuisines in "Menu" and tap "Fill the week for me", open "Provisions" and tap "Copy list" or "Print", and record sales in "Slop chest".
  10. Savings: set "Paid in", "Monthly goal", "Home currency" and the rate, then add each allotment with "Add".
  11. Data-light: tap "Choose photo", pick a size, then "Share" or "Save small copy".

Tips

  • If the diary might be used as evidence, use a passphrase or at least 6 digits: a 4-digit PIN has only 10,000 combinations.
  • Write diary entries the same day, with the exact words said if you remember them, and share the PDF only with someone you trust (SeafarerHelp, ITF, your union, the DPA).
  • Never pay a fee to get a job at sea and never post original documents; note the agency name and licence number now and check it when you have signal.
  • Add the languages you need in your phone’s text-to-speech settings so the phrase audio works offline.
  • Galley "Halal" only removes pork dishes: the meat must still come from a halal-certified supplier, and always confirm allergies with each crew member.

Limits and good to know

  • Everything works offline except calling or messaging a helpline, "Suggest a correction" on a port guide, the official agency links in the scam checker and sharing a shrunk photo.
  • The diary cannot be recovered without its PIN or passphrase; the only way back in is "Forgot PIN? Delete all diary entries", which wipes it.
  • The diary PDF holds text only; photos stay on the phone. On the Free plan the diary export and the galley print each use one of the month’s free prints; the trial and the paid plans print without limits.
  • Helpline numbers, port notes and the scam links are checked regularly but can change; every card shows its source and check date, and national lines work only from a phone connected in that country.
  • Sleep, exercises and helplines are general wellbeing guidance, not medical advice; the scam checker shows general warning signs and never says whether a particular company is genuine.
  • Allotment & savings and the galley budget are planning aids, not financial advice; the exchange rate and the victualling rate are whatever you type.

Use it in the app

The same page sits inside SeaReady under Help → Handbook and behind the “?” in the screen’s header, and it reads offline at sea.
