What it is for
Marine news (menu: "Marine news", under Tools & news) brings you the 15–20 most important maritime stories of the week from trusted sources (regulators, flag states, class, P&I clubs, welfare bodies and the trade press), written by SeaReady in plain words. Each story shows its topic, source and date, a short summary, a "Why it matters" line saying what a seafarer or ship manager should know or do, and a "Read the full story" link to the publisher. Topics are Regulation, Vetting & PSC, Safety & casualties, Crew & welfare, Environment, Security and Industry; on a paid plan a row of topic chips filters the week.
A new edition arrives every week. The last edition you opened is saved on this phone, so it reads offline at sea; with no connection the page says it is showing the copy saved on this phone. Tap "Refresh" to check for a newer edition. On a paid plan the dashboard also shows a card, "This week's marine news", with the number of stories, that opens the page.
"Older news" (the trial and the paid plans) lists every earlier week of the last 6 months with its story count and main topics; tap a week to read it with the same topic filter. Each week you open is saved on the phone, a phone that comes back online after weeks away downloads the weeks it missed in the background, and weeks older than 6 months are removed.
Who can use it
Signed in on the Free plan: the top 2 stories of the week in full; the rest of the week’s headlines are greyed with a lock and a line saying how many more there are, and "Older news" is a locked card. The trial, Crew, Officer Pro and a ship licence: every story and the 6-month archive. Signed out: three locked example headlines and an "Unlock the weekly marine news" button.
Step by step
- Open the menu and tap "Marine news" (or tap the news card on the dashboard on a paid plan).
- Read the stories; tap a topic chip such as "Vetting & PSC" to show only that topic, or "All" to show everything.
- Tap "Read the full story" to open the publisher’s article in a new tab (needs internet).
- Scroll to "Older news" and tap a week to read an earlier edition; tap "This week's news" to come back.
- Tap "Refresh" when you have a connection to check for a newer week.
Tips
- Open the page once while the ship has internet, in port or on VSAT/Starlink: the week is then on your phone for the whole passage.
- Read the "Why it matters" line at the safety meeting: it is one sentence on what to know or do.
- Vetting & PSC is the topic to read before an inspection: new campaigns and detention trends appear there.
Limits and good to know
- Fetching a new edition, Older news and the full-story links need internet; reading the saved copy does not.
- On the Free plan a locked story shows only the headline, topic, source and date; the summary, why it matters and the link come with any paid plan.
- Older news keeps 26 weekly editions (6 months). When a paid plan ends, the saved older weeks are removed from the phone and the page goes back to the free view.
- Summaries are SeaReady’s own words; each full story belongs to its publisher. The news is not part of the ship file and is not included in backups.
- If fewer than 15 good stories can be verified in a week, no new edition is published and the previous week stays.

Use it in the app
The same page sits inside SeaReady under Help → Handbook and behind the “?” in the screen’s header, and it reads offline at sea.
