Zone walk
Self-inspect the ship zone by zone in the order an inspector walks it, with an 11th-hour mode for the last 24 to 48 hours before port.

What it is for
The "Zone Walk" lays the same checklist out the way an inspector sees the ship: ten physical zones, from the hull and gangway to the engine room and accommodation. Each zone card rolls up the questions that are actually checked there, so you can walk the ship with the phone in your hand and answer as you go. An answer given in the walk is the same answer you see in the chapter view.
The ship diagram at the top is tappable: tap a zone on the profile, or tap a card in the list, to open that zone’s checklist.
Who can use it
Everyone, every rank, on every plan. Your rank’s own zones are marked "your area" and can be listed first, but nothing is hidden from any rank. The free-plan and ship-licence edit rules are the same as on the checklists.
Step by step
- Open "Zone walk" from the menu. The pill under the diagram shows how many checks are in the walk and how many open findings and critical items there are.
- Choose the order with the "Order" buttons: "Inspector’s route" (gangway, office, bridge, deck and cargo spaces, mooring, lifeboats and fire stations, engine room, accommodation), "Your areas first" or "Diagram order".
- Tap a zone. The page shows the zone’s checks, the counts, and on the engine room a "Machinery space walk-round — inspector focus" list plus "Records the inspector will ask for — produce in under a minute".
- Answer each item exactly as on the checklist: "Ready", "Needs work", "Not ready" or "N/A", with notes, photos, voice notes and the "Critical risk" switch.
- Tick the PSC list items shown in the zone ("PSC — Certificates & documents" in the office, "PSC — LSA / FFA readiness" at the lifeboats, and so on); items marked "detainable" are the ones that can hold the ship.
- Before port, tap "11th hour" in the phase buttons. The list shrinks to the checks that can still change the outcome in the last 24 to 48 hours — about a third of the full bank.
- Tap "Zone report" at the top of a zone, or "Report" on the walk page, to print what you found.
Tips
- "Contract start" shows the one-time, deep checks you do once when you join (or after dry-dock or a management change); "Weekly/Monthly" shows the recurring ones. Run them on a rhythm so nothing is stale when an inspection is announced.
- The inspector chooses the real order on the day. The "Inspector’s route" order is a common pattern, not a rule.
- Zones with nothing to check on your ship type (for example the pump room on a bulk carrier) are simply left out of the list.
What the inspector looks for
- The walk the inspector does first is the external one: hull coating, draft marks, gangway and access control. Start your own walk there too.
- In your own area expect the inspector to spend time with you and ask you to demonstrate, not describe.
- Engine officers: the machinery-space focus list and the records list on the engine-room zone are the things an inspector asks for within the first minutes in the control room.
Limits and good to know
- The phase filter ("All checks", "Contract start", "Weekly/Monthly", "11th hour") applies only to SIRE 2.0 questions. RightShip, OVID, BIQ5 and PSC items always show in full.
- Free plan: the same first-2-per-chapter rule as the checklists; locked items show a "Paid plans" pill and can be read but not answered.
- The walk works offline. Your chosen order and phase are remembered on this phone.
