Mock inspector
Rehearse the inspector’s interview for your rank — offline practice for everyone, the AI inspector with scores and a readiness PDF on paid plans.

What it is for
The "AI Mock Inspector" lets you rehearse the interview before a real inspector sits down with you. It asks the questions an inspector asks your rank, pushes back when an answer sounds recited from the manual, and grades what you said.
Behind it is a bank of 177 interview topics mapped from the SIRE 2.0 question library, in SeaReady’s own words and sorted by rank, from the Master to the cook; they fit your ship type and regime. "Offline practice (built-in guidance)" asks 5 topics with no internet and scores them with a keyword check. "AI inspector" needs internet: the AI scores every answer on Hardware, Process and Human (0–5 each), adds a short debrief and names the chapter or rule it relates to.
Who can use it
Everyone, on every plan. Free: offline practice only, with half of the topics for your rank. Crew: all topics offline, plus a short AI practice of 3 scored questions. Officer Pro, a ship licence and the free trial: the full AI interview with a choice of inspector, a crew-member name and the readiness PDF.
Step by step
- Under "Interview as rank" pick the rank to be interviewed as, and under "Chapter focus" leave "Surprise me" or pick one SIRE chapter.
- On the full plans choose the "Inspector" (strict SIRE 2.0, RightShip, Port State Control, CDI or OVID) and type the "Crew member (for the readiness PDF)".
- Tap "AI inspector" or "Offline practice (built-in guidance)", then "Start interview" (on Crew: "Start 3-question AI practice").
- Type your answer and press Enter to send (Shift+Enter for a new line). On paid plans tap the microphone, speak, and the words are typed into the box for you to check first.
- Watch the "last answer" pill and, in AI mode, the score chip under each answer: Hardware, Process and Human out of 5, a debrief and "Ref:".
- Tap the stop button ("End and grade") for the report card. Offline practice ends after 5 topics (ending early gives a partial report); the Crew practice ends by itself after 3 scored answers.
- Read the "Interview report card": readiness percent, a grade per dimension (Exceeds, As Expected, Largely as Expected, Not as Expected), the "Performance Influencing Factors flagged" and the "Improvement tips". On the full plans tap "Readiness PDF". "New interview" starts again; "Review transcript" shows the conversation.
Tips
- Short answers, hedging ("I think", "probably") and policy language ("as per company policy") are what the inspector challenges and marks down.
- The Master can interview each person as their own rank and keep the readiness PDFs as proof the crew prepared. If the AI connection drops at sea the app switches to the built-in inspector by itself.
What the inspector looks for
- A SIRE 2.0 inspector grades the people as well as the ship — Hardware, Process and Human — and challenges recited answers with "what does that look like on this ship?" and "show me". Practise with a real example from this contract.
- Weak answers are linked to Performance Influencing Factors (fatigue, team communication, procedures not understood and so on) — the same nine factors as in the Observations workbench.
Limits and good to know
- Free plan: no AI; half of the topics for your rank. The inspector choice, crew-member name and readiness PDF are a read-only preview on Free and Crew.
- The AI inspector and spoken answers need internet; spoken answers are on paid plans and the trial. Offline practice works anywhere, but its grading is a keyword check, not an inspector’s judgement.
- Crew plan: the AI practice is 3 questions with the SIRE inspector and uses your daily AI questions (25 a day on Crew).
- The last 20 sessions are kept under "History" on this phone; they are not part of the ship’s file.
- Each finished session goes into your training progress (rank, questions, score, weak areas). On a ship licence only the Master sees it, in Crew progress — never other crew; on a personal plan only if you opt in.
- Free plan: finishing a session of 3 answers or more earns 1 extra PDF print that month (up to 3 extra).
