Inspection checklists

Answer SIRE 2.0, CDI, RightShip, OVID or BIQ5 questions as Ready, Needs work or Not ready, with notes, photos, voice notes and a critical flag.

What it is for

The checklists are the heart of SeaReady. The app opens the one for your ship type: tankers and gas carriers get the 12 SIRE 2.0 chapters (chemical tankers add a CDI track, gas carriers a gas-carrier track); bulk carriers and other dry-cargo ships get RightShip RISQ (17 sections); offshore vessels get OVID; barges get BIQ5. Every question is a practice prompt in SeaReady’s own words, not the inspector’s text.

For each question you record where the ship really stands: "Ready", "Needs work", "Not ready" or "N/A", with a note, photos, a voice note and a "Critical risk" flag for anything that could stop the ship. The answers feed the dashboard score, the zone walk, the inspection report and the defence pack.

Who can use it

Everyone, every rank, on every plan. On the Free plan you can read every question but answer only the first 2 in each chapter (RightShip and BIQ5: every question in the first 2 sections). Any paid plan, the free trial or a ship licence opens every question. On a ship licence everyone aboard reads every answer, but a chapter is changed only by its owner rank and the Master.

Step by step

  1. Open the checklist from the Prep tab (tankers: "SIRE 2.0 Self-Inspection"; other ships land on their own module).
  2. Tap a chapter card to open it; the bar shows how many questions are assessed and the pills count ready, needs work, not ready and critical.
  3. Tap a question to expand it and read "What good looks like", "Expected evidence", "Negative observation grounds" and, where we have one, the "Inspector’s view".
  4. Tap "Ready", "Needs work", "Not ready" or "N/A". Tap the same button again to clear the answer.
  5. Type what you checked and what the fix is in the notes box, tap "Photo" to attach a picture, or tap "Voice note" to record — the AI writes your words into the note on paid plans.
  6. Switch on "Critical risk" for a defect that could stop the ship or cascade into other chapters; it is counted separately everywhere.
  7. Use the phase buttons at the top of a chapter — "All checks", "Contract start", "Weekly/Monthly", "11th hour" — to show only the questions that belong to that stage of the inspection cycle.

Tips

  • Start with the "Likely next questions" panel on the SIRE page: the questions most worth practising first for your rank, ordered by how likely they are to be asked, how close they are to your job and how much work is left.
  • Tap "Explain this simply" (or "Explain this in" your language, chosen in Settings) under a question for plain words. It needs internet and an AI plan.
  • Each card shows its zone pill ("Bridge", "Engine rm" and so on) — the same answer appears in the zone walk, so work by chapter or by zone and never answer twice.
  • RightShip ships: the "RCA close-out tracker" on the RISQ page counts down the 15 days after an inspection; enter the inspection date and fill the five Root Cause Analysis boxes there.

What the inspector looks for

  • The inspector compares what you declared with what they see and hear on board. One physical defect can turn into several linked observations across chapters, so fix the hardware first and then close the paperwork loop.
  • Core questions are asked at every SIRE 2.0 inspection; rotational ones are drawn from a pool; conditional ones depend on what your ship has and does. The "Core", "Rotational", "Conditional" and "Campaign" pills tell you which is which.
  • Expect to be asked to show, not describe. A note that says where the evidence is kept saves minutes on the day.

Limits and good to know

  • Free plan: every question readable; only the first 2 per chapter (RightShip and BIQ5: the first 2 sections) can be answered, noted, photographed or flagged. Answers saved during the trial stay visible and stay in your reports.
  • Voice notes and the "Explain" button are on paid plans and the trial. Turning a voice note into text needs internet; without it the recording is kept with the answer and you can type the note.
  • A photo must be under 15 MB in a format the phone can read (convert iPhone HEIC to JPEG). On the Free plan photos and voice notes stay on the phone; on paid plans and ship licences they upload to the cloud when there is internet — the badge on each thumbnail says "On this device only", "Uploading" or "In the cloud".
  • Ship licence edit rights: in Settings, under "People aboard", the Master taps "Rights" next to a person to set "Rank on this ship" and tick extra chapters under "Also allowed to edit". Someone who joined without a rank reads everything but changes nothing until the Master sets it.
  • Change history: on a ship, tap "Change history" under any question for its last 10 changes (who, what, when); the Master can "Undo" one. The Master’s full list ("Change history" in Settings) filters by person or chapter, has "Refresh" and "Export CSV", keeps every change for 90 days (the newest 2,000 shown) and daily totals for 3 years. It needs internet — it lives on the SeaReady server.
  • Answers sync through the SeaReady server over the ship’s Wi-Fi whenever it has internet and in port; with no internet, changes are held on the phone until the connection returns.
