What it is for

The "Bunkering Checklist" walks the officer in charge through a bunkering operation in three parts: "Before bunkering", "During bunkering" and "After bunkering". The checks cover the bunker plan, the SOPEP spill gear at the manifold, soundings, agreed signals with the barge, alarms, the sample, and the paperwork that costs money when it is wrong: the bunker delivery note (BDN), the MARPOL sample and the letter of protest.

It is one checklist for one operation. When the bunkers are done and the Oil Record Book entry is made, you reset it for the next time.

Who can use it

Everyone, on every plan including Free. Normally used by the Chief Engineer or the officer in charge of the transfer. Shared through the ship file on Officer Pro or a ship licence; on Free and Crew it stays on your phone.

Step by step

  1. Open "Bunkering checklist" from the Tools page and set the "Operation date".
  2. Work down "Before bunkering" (10 items) and tick each one as it is done: the agreed plan, SOPEP gear staged, drip trays and scuppers, tank soundings, signals agreed, the safety checklist signed by both sides, alarms tested, manifold connections, blanks and the sampling arrangement. The pill on each card counts the ticks.
  3. During the transfer tick "During bunkering" (6 items): slow start until tight, soundings logged, deck watch posted, drip sample running and witnessed, no other work blocking the manifold, weather watched.
  4. After the transfer tick "After bunkering" (7 items): final soundings with temperatures and densities, the BDN checked before you sign, the MARPOL sample sealed and signed by both sides, lines drained and blanked, scuppers opened only when the deck is clean, the Oil Record Book Part I entry made, and a letter of protest if the figures do not agree.
  5. Type the grades, supplier, barge name and any dispute in "Operation notes (grades, supplier, barge, discrepancies)". The top pill shows the total, for example "23/23 complete".
  6. When everything is filed, tap "Reset for next operation" to clear every tick. The notes are not cleared by the reset.

Tips

  • Check the quantity, density and sulphur on the BDN against your own figures before anyone signs. Once it is signed, a dispute is much harder to win.
  • For the Oil Record Book line, open the "Oil Record Book codes" tool and pick "Taking fuel oil bunkers" to see the code and item numbers.

Limits and good to know

  • Saved on your phone; works with no signal. On Officer Pro or a ship licence it is part of the ship file: the ship’s phones sync through the SeaReady server over the ship’s Wi-Fi whenever it has internet (VSAT/Starlink) and in port; with no internet, changes are held on the phone until the connection returns. On Free and Crew it stays on your own phone.
  • One operation at a time: there is no history of earlier bunkerings. Copy the notes into your own log before you reset.
  • There is no print button. It is a working aid in SeaReady’s own words, not the ship-to-ship or terminal safety checklist that both parties sign.

Use it in the app

The same page sits inside SeaReady under Help → Handbook and behind the “?” in the screen’s header, and it reads offline at sea.
