Handover
Write structured relief notes in four sections; open observations, expiring certificates and conditions of class are added automatically.

What it is for
The Master’s Handover Generator turns relief notes into one printable document. You write four sections — "1. Crew & personnel", "2. Technical & defects", "3. Commercial & operations" and "4. Open items & commitments" — and SeaReady adds an appendix from the ship’s records: open observations with their closure countdown, certificates expiring within 60 days and open conditions of class.
The printed document carries the ship’s name, IMO, flag and type, the date, and signature lines for the outgoing and incoming Master.
Who can use it
Everyone, on every plan — it is written for the Master handing over. The notes are kept in the ship file on the phone.
Step by step
- Open "Handover" from the Ship & crew menu.
- Read "Auto-pulled from your records": the open observations, certificates expiring within 60 days and open conditions of class that will be appended.
- Write each of the four sections as you would brief your relief face to face. The hint under each title says what belongs there.
- Tap "Copy text" to copy the compiled document, for an e-mail or the company’s own form.
- Tap "Print" to print it or save it as a PDF, with the appendix and the two signature lines.
Tips
- If an appended item needs the relief’s direct action, mention it in section 4 as well — the appendix is a list, not a briefing.
- The SeaReady side of the handover is separate: before you sign off, hand the ship to the incoming Master under Settings → Ship ("Make Master" or a handover code).
- Pair the document with the Rest hours whole-crew PDF and the certificate export so the relief starts with the records the inspector will ask for.
Limits and good to know
- "Print" is a paid-plan document: on the Free plan the button is greyed with a lock and the browser’s own Print shows a notice. "Copy text" works on every plan.
- The appendix takes observations from the Observations tool, certificates from the vault and conditions of class — not the findings tracker.
- Observations without a follow-up date show no countdown; an overdue one is marked "OVERDUE".
