Nameplate troubleshooter
Photograph a machine nameplate and the AI tells you what the machine is, its ratings and its common faults.
Updated 2026-10-11 · SeaReady’s own words. The app changes often — if a screen looks different from this page, tell us from Help → Suggest an improvement.
What it is for
The "Nameplate troubleshooter" reads a photo of a machine’s nameplate or rating plate and the AI explains what the machine is, the key figures on the plate, four to six common faults for that type of machine with the usual first check, and one line on isolation and permits before any work.
It is a quick second opinion for an engineer in front of unfamiliar equipment. The maker’s manual, your company procedures and the permit-to-work system come first.
Who can use it
Anyone with an AI plan: Crew, Officer Pro, the free trial or a ship licence. The free plan has no AI, so the page shows a message with a "See plans" link instead of an answer. Each photo counts as one of your AI questions for the day (25 a day on Crew, 100 a day on Officer Pro; on a ship licence 100 a day per phone, from the ship’s shared pool).
Step by step
- Open "Nameplate troubleshooter" from the Tools page while the phone has a connection.
- Tap "Photograph nameplate". The phone offers its camera (or the photo library on a computer). Hold the phone straight on, fill the frame with the plate and avoid glare.
- Wait while the button reads "Reading the plate…". The photo is shrunk on the phone and sent to the AI only to be read; it is not kept.
- Read the answer under its headings: MACHINE, RATINGS, COMMON FAULTS and SAFETY. If the plate could not be read, the answer says what was unreadable and asks for a sharper, straight-on photo.
- Copy anything you want to keep before you leave the page: the answer is not saved.
Tips
- Wipe the plate and use the torch if the stamping is faint. The AI only reports figures it can actually read and never guesses serial numbers.
- Use the answer as a starting point for the fault-finding talk with the Chief Engineer, not as the instruction to open the machine.
Limits and good to know
- Needs internet: with no connection the page shows "AI needs a connection. Everything else in SeaReady keeps working." and the photo is not sent anywhere.
- Free plan: no AI. When the day’s AI questions are used up, the app offers "Double AI" instead of an answer.
- Nothing is stored: the photo is not kept on the server and the answer disappears when you leave the page. The AI can be wrong; the page says so under the answer.
